National Credentialing Teacher Preparation Courses
MDTSEA and St. Cloud State University

Is your driver education program in need of quality instructors? Do you have seasoned, existing teachers who could use an update? The MDTSEA will continue to provide quality Driver Education Instructor Preparation courses three to four times a year in Michigan through ADTSEA and St. Cloud State University. The National Credentialing Certificate will continue to be made available through this program. The NCC teacher preparation program allows instructors to become certified in other states as well as Michigan. There are approximately 25 states that accept the NCC program in some form. It is up to the state to set individual requirements for incoming instructors.

To meet the new Michigan requirements in PA 384, the existing 3-course series has been expanded to 4 courses with the 4th course being the student teaching/practicum. The 3 core courses have been lengthened to three weeks or weekends for each course. New instructors must successfully complete all three courses, meet the requirements in Section 17 of PA 384, enroll in a practicum course, and possess a “Conditional Driver Education Instructor Certificate” to be issued by the MDOS in order to participate in the student teaching course.

We encourage existing driving schools to participate in the NCC program by providing facilities (classroom and parking lot) or updating your current instructors to a National Credential.  They may do so by successfully completing class #1, Driver Task Analysis only.  By special arrangements, the NCC instructors are available to travel to your location and upgrade your instructors with the DTA class with a commitment of at least 6 instructors.
